Dr. Malcolm Matthews
In pop culture, autism behaviours are often misunderstood. Onscreen, characters with autism are often presented as extremely literal, socially awkward, and naive about relationships and everyday interactions. But can autistics be laughed with or only laughed at? In what ways might the relationship between autism and humour provide an opportunity to re-imagine what it means to be funny, what it means to be autistic, and even what it means to be human?
